Dr. Randy Kidd

Dr. Kidd practiced as a "normal/regular" vet for more than 20 years - small animal, mixed animal, food animal and emergency medicine practices - in places from coast to coast. He then returned to Kansas State, where he earned a PhD in veterinary pathology, and he has worked in veterinary reference labs in Texas and Montana. For most of these years, he has been an active writer and educator. As a part of writing about alternative medicines, he took the necessary coursework to become certified in veterinary acupuncture, homeopathy, and chiropractic. For the past decade or so, he has been a writer/educator and has had an alternative/holistic vet practice in Kansas City and the San Francisco Bay Area. He recently retired from active practice to devote full time to writing and teaching.

In addition to his two books, Dr. Kidd's Guide to Herbal Dog Care and Dr. Kidd's Guide to Herbal Cat Care (Storey Publishing), Dr. Kidd writes regularly for Herbs for Health magazine and the Whole Dog Journal and most recently wrote a series of articles on alternative medicines for Dog World magazine.

Kidd resides with his wife, rescued puppy Pokey, and several barn cats in rural Kansas. The Kidds (and now with Pokey's help) organically grow several dozen medicinal herbs and are converting their acreage into a healing center that includes natural/native plants, several medicine wheels, a labyrinth and sweat lodge, and several miles of interpretative woodlot and prairie trails.
