Mary Hessler Key, PhD
A lifelong animal lover and expert on human learning, Mary Hessler Key is a speaker, author, and consultant who inspires people around the globe to grow both personally and professionally. Key helps Fortune 500 company executives as well as budding entrepreneurs master such topics as leading change, strategic planning and strategy development, leadership and team development, corporate identity and branding, attracting and retaining talent, and entrepreneurship.
To inspire people worldwide on issues of entrepreneurship, Key wrote a book entitled The Entrepreneurial Cat: 13 Ways to Transform Your Work Life. In it, Key takes a fun and light-hearted approach to sharing time-honored principles on being more proactive or "entrepreneurial" in one's work and personal life. She also co-authored Everyday Entrepreneurs©, a training and development program based on the book. She teaches employees how to see their work life from a new perspective and how to apply these skills to improve communication, productivity, and life balance.
Key's newest book, What Animals Teach Us: Love, Loyalty, Heroism, and Other Life Lessons from Our Pets, showcases her talent as a human behaviorist. Using real-life stories to depict the inspiring bond between humans and animals, Key asserts that animals are a link to human understanding. She presents not only a book about animal wisdom, but also one about the social state of the world today. The book teaches people to look deep inside and draw on their inherent abilities to develop solutions to pressing social and personal challenges as well as to find greater meaning in their lives.
Key received her Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and her B.S. from the University of Massachusetts. She has taught at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business, the University of Tampa's Graduate School of Business, and other educational institutions.
