Merritt Clifton is the editor of Animal People, the leading independent newspaper providing original investigative coverage of animal protection worldwide. Animal People was founded in 1992 by Merritt and Kim Bartlett, the publisher of the newspaper. The duo have been working together since 1986 providing information services to the humane community.


Merritt's annual workload includes researching and writing more than 200 articles and filling more than 2,000 individual information requests.


Merritt has been a news reporter, editor, columnist, and foreign correspondent since 1968, specializing in animal and habitat-related coverage since 1978. He is a charter member of the Society of Environmental Journalists, and a four-time winner of national awards for investigative reporting.


Thanks to Merritt's and Kim's efforts, Animal People currently has a readership of over 30,000, including decision-makers at more than 8,300 animal protection organizations.
