Ed Powers
Ed Powers is the shelter outreach manager for Petfinder.com, the largest and oldest pet adoption website. In addition to working with humane groups all over the country, Ed oversees several of Petfinder's member benefits, including the ShelterCare insurance program, microchipping, ParvoStop disinfectant and others. Ed has been involved in several new construction projects, as well as renovations, and has consulted with several groups on their building programs.
Ed has worked in the animal welfare field for the past 21 years. Prior to working for Petfinder.com, he worked for the Animal Rescue League of Boston, serving as director of operations for seven years, director of education for seven years, and as a law enforcement officer for five years.
He has been a member of the Society of Animal Welfare Administrators (SAWA) since 1997 and has served on the planning committee for SAWA's Directors of Operation conference for the past five years. Since 2000, Ed has served on the board of directors for the Massachusetts Animal Coalition, which has a diverse membership that represents over 125 organizations.
Ed has been a member of the Massachusetts Animal Emergency Response Team (MAERT) working with the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency to develop a disaster response plan for the state. He has served on the American Humane Association's disaster response team since 1995.
Ed has presented at the SAWA Directors of Operation conference and the AHA Conference, and for the New England Federation of Humane Societies.
Ed graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. in animal science and a master's degree in education from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. He has a certificate of management from Boston University.
