Carol Shiveley
Carol Shiveley has been involved in humane education at
Oregon Humane Society (OHS) for over 15 years. During her early years at OHS, she managed 121 wonderful, empathetic animal-assisted therapy volunteers and their animal partners. This included being an evaluator with Delta Society for Pet Partners. Carol has always had two passions: love of youths and love of animals.
Earlier in her life, she incorporated the two as a volunteer, serving boy and girl scouts as a troup leader, and working with school PTAs, art shows, and church youth groups. She believes that youths can help in many ways and finds their enthusiasm, freshness and hope for a better tomorrow invigorating. They can be counted on to lead, mentor and teach other youths to love animals. They help at Oregon Humane Society camps as Junior Aides and Senior Aides and earn "paw levels" in the Teen Club. Many youths give their time and energy by working with the animals in the shelter.
Carol has had the privilege of counseling and teaching many teachers and students and has been impressed by their many amazing projects for the animals in their clubs and schools.
Carol is married to an animal lover. She has a daughter who is an R.N., a son who is an M.D., and she enjoys her three adorable grandsons immensely. Her pet family includes two incredible canine ambassadors for humane education, Bessie and Ginger. She also has sweet old Bo, a Golden Retriever mix retiree, who worked for humane education 10 years. Her felines Julius and Baby are content to hang out at home.
