Brian Bernath, Safety and Security Manager
As the safety and security manager for Best Friends, Brian Bernath ensures the safety of the sanctuarys animals, staff, volunteers and visitors. He joined Best Friends in January 2006 as the canyon ranger; he was responsible for promoting a positive and secure environment for Best Friends' animals, guests and staff by patrolling and monitoring the sanctuary grounds. Brian became the safety and security manager in October 2007.
Before coming to Best Friends, Brian worked as a realtor in Illinois. He and his wife became involved in animal welfare when they adopted their first dog, a retired racing greyhound. That dog inspired them to pursue opportunities for employment at Best Friends. Brian loves being part of an organization that stands for something he feels strongly about. He's proud to say that he works for Best Friends.
Brian's wife, Lori, is the human resources training and development manager. They are celebrating their 15-year anniversary in 2008. They are both from the Chicago area and remain loyal fans to the Bears and the Cubs. Their family currently includes three greyhounds, two of whom are retired racers. In addition to hiking with their dogs, they love to hike the beautiful national parks located nearby.
