Anne Mejia, Director of Visitor Programs
Anne Mejia is one of the founders of Best Friends. In the formative years of Best Friends, Anne was at the forefront of fundraising and membership development. Anne and her husband, Cyrus, began the Best Friends Visitor Program in 1995 after seeing the impact that a visit to the sanctuary had on people - not just Best Friends members and supporters, but the general public as well.
As director of Visitor Programs, Anne manages the Welcome Center, which encompasses the hosting of 20,000 visitors a year from around the world, tours of the sanctuary, volunteer coordination, and the gift shop. Anne is also the landscape designer of Angels Rest, the pet memorial park at Best Friends.
Anne grew up in Toronto, Ontario, and attended York University, where she studied psychology and sociology. Since her youth, Anne's sense of mission has involved her in various social and animal assistance programs. For several years prior to the establishment of Best Friends, Anne and Cyrus did animal rescue and adoption in Golden, Colorado.
Angel Canyon, home to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, is also home for Anne and Cyrus and their many cats and dogs.
