The Animal Foundation/Lied Animal Shelter and Best Friends team up for a pet adoption event June 23 - 24

Kanab, UT (June 20, 2007) - Joy Joy's big day is coming up. This sweet 9-year-old dog will be one of 38 very special animals looking for homes this weekend when Best Friends Animal Society and The Animal Foundation are teaming up for an adoption event. These 36 friendly dogs and cats, along with 2 super-cute rats, represent new hope for the homeless pets of Las Vegas.

The Animal Foundation, which operates Lied Animal Shelter, and Best Friends Animal Society, a national animal welfare organization, are hosting the event 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24 at the Satellite NW Adoption Center in the Albertson's Shopping Center, 7035 Ann Road.

"Adoption days like this are really the best way for people to find the right pet for them," said Julie Castle, who runs community programs for Best Friends. "At our adoption days in Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, we routinely place up to 500 pets a day in good new homes."

Animal Foundation Executive Director Chris Robinson. "As part of a major reorganization of Lied, The Animal Foundation is closing the satellite adoption centers and redirecting resources to the main shelter, where significant improvements are already underway. It is vital that these remaining animals find homes now."

One adoption center has already closed and the second center will close June 30. For the year that they were open, both centers were successful in finding forever homes for about 400 animals.

All the animals are spayed or neutered and vaccinated. Adoption fee for dogs is $50 and $30 for cats. There is a 2-for-1 special on cat adoptions: adopt two kitties for $30.

To see the adoptable animals, Best Friends has set up a website: http://network.bestfriends.org/lasvegas/news/.
